World Liberty Congress Stands with Serbian Protesters Against Repression

The World Liberty Congress stands in unwavering solidarity with students, journalists, and all those in Serbia who are exercising their fundamental right to peacefully protest in the face of growing government repression. Their courage in demanding accountability and defending their democratic freedoms must not only be recognized but also fiercely protected.

We are deeply alarmed by the recent attacks on students in Novi Sad, reportedly carried out by individuals linked to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). Violence against peaceful protesters is unacceptable in any democratic society. Attempts to justify or obscure such assaults only deepen public distrust in Serbia’s institutions. We strongly condemn these assaults, as well as the broader pattern of repression in recent months, and demand full accountability for those responsible.

The ongoing protests reflect widespread discontent with a government increasingly defined by corruption, lack of transparency, and authoritarian tactics. For months, Serbian citizens have stood firm in their demands for justice and reform, despite facing violence and intimidation. Their persistence is a powerful reminder that democracy thrives when citizens hold their leaders to account without fear of retaliation.

The World Liberty Congress calls on the Serbian government to respect the rights of protestors, end its crackdown on dissent, and uphold its obligation to protect all citizens. The international community cannot remain silent in the face of these attacks on civil liberties. An assault on human rights in one country is a threat to freedom everywhere.

We will continue to stand by the people of Serbia, and all those who fight for democracy, justice, and human rights all over the world

We are building the Congress as a legitimate and democratic institution with shared principles and mission, representation of all countries under autocratic regimes and clear governance structure.
The Congress will meet every year for the annual General Assembly with the intention to become an alternative voice to autocratic regimes.
