The World Liberty Congress expresses deep concern over the recent declaration of martial law in South Korea, which constitutes a threat to democracy, the rule of law, and the constitutional rights of the Korean people.
In addition to President Yoon Suk Yeol announcement of the reversal of martial rule, we urge him to take swift action to fully restore constitutional rights and ensure that democratic principles are upheld. This decisive step is critical for safeguarding the rule of law, respecting the will of the National Assembly, and reaffirming South Korea’s commitment to democracy.
We call upon all parties in South Korea, including political leaders, civil society organizations, and members of the military, to respect the Constitution and ensure that political disagreements are addressed through lawful and democratic means. Only through adherence to these principles can peace and stability be maintained, and the legitimacy of South Korea’s democratic institutions be preserved.
The World Liberty Congress also appeals to the international community to support the Korean people in their efforts to uphold democracy and human rights. We encourage all nations and international organizations to take diplomatic and economic measures to ensure the swift restoration of democratic order in South Korea.
To the people of South Korea: the World Liberty Congress stands in unwavering solidarity with you and supports peaceful, democratic, and constitutional pathways to resolve political differences. We affirm that the fight for freedom and democracy transcends ideology and is a shared responsibility of all citizens, institutions, and social actors.
South Korea has been a proud example of democracy and development. It is our sincere hope that this tradition of democratic governance will prevail, that the Constitution will be upheld, and that the rights of all Koreans will be fully restored without delay.
Democracy is a collective responsibility, and its defense requires the unity and determination of all.
