The World Liberty Congress (WLC) stands in profound solidarity with the people of Burma in the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck the region on March 28. We are deeply saddened by the loss of life, the injuries, and the destruction that this disaster has caused across communities already enduring immense suffering under one of the world’s most brutal military regimes.
Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy, particularly the most vulnerable — including women, children, and displaced families — who now face even greater insecurity and hardship. We also extend our heartfelt concern to our courageous WLC members from Burma, who continue to fight for freedom and justice in their homeland. Your resilience in the face of oppression and now, natural disaster, inspires us every day.
At WLC, we stand against authoritarian regimes like the one ruling Burma. But when tragedy strikes, we do not distinguish between autocratic or democratic states — because, in the face of human suffering, our shared humanity must come first. Right now, the most urgent priority is to ensure that relief reaches the people whose lives have been shattered by this earthquake.
We call on the international community to act swiftly and decisively in providing humanitarian assistance and emergency relief to the people of Burma. We urge governments, international organizations, NGOs, and civil society to ensure that aid reaches those in need without delay, obstruction, or manipulation by the military regime.
We encourage and support every effort to assist the people of Burma in this time of crisis. We urge anyone who wishes to support local relief efforts to donate to trusted initiatives such as Advance Myanmar’s Emergency Earthquake Appeal, which is working directly with local organizations providing emergency support in areas where the military seeks to block aid.
While our immediate focus is on saving lives and supporting survivors, we will continue to hold the Burmese military accountable — today for ensuring transparent, equitable reconstruction efforts, and in the future for any abuse of human rights or obstruction of humanitarian aid.
In times of disaster, solidarity and humanity must come first. The World Liberty Congress reaffirms its unwavering commitment to standing with the people of Burma — in their darkest hours and in their ongoing fight for freedom, dignity, and peace.
In solidarity,
The World Liberty Congress
