The World Liberty Congress unequivocally condemns the brutal and systematic violence being perpetrated against peaceful protesters in Iran who are courageously demanding freedom, democracy, and respect for their fundamental human rights.
Credible reports indicate that around 27 protesters – including at least three minors – have been killed, with hundreds more arrested, forcibly disappeared, or arbitrarily detained in the span of the 11 days since protests broke out across the country. These acts represent a grave escalation of the Iranian authorities’ long-standing pattern of repression and intimidation. We are particularly alarmed by documented attacks on hospitals and medical facilities, including the targeting of wounded protesters while they were receiving treatment. Such actions constitute a clear violation of international humanitarian law (IHRL), including the fundamental principles protecting medical personnel, patients, and healthcare infrastructure during times of unrest and conflict.
To hide its atrocities, the regime has utilized its known strategy of shutting down the internet and communications services, aiming to suppress the population by disconnecting the Iranian people from the outside world, obstructing the documentation of abuses, and silencing peaceful protest. Such actions violate the rights to freedom of expression and access to information under international human rights law.
The people of Iran are crying out for the world to hear them. They are demanding nothing more than their inalienable rights to self-determination, dignity, and freedom—rights enshrined in international law and owed to every human being.
We at the World Liberty Congress call on the international community, governments, multilateral bodies and technology providers to:
• Publicly condemn these atrocities without hesitation;
• Demand the immediate release of all arbitrarily detained protesters;
• Insist on independent international investigations into these crimes; and
• Stand in solidarity with the people of Iran in their struggle for justice and democratic freedoms; and
• Support the Iranian people by enabling secure, unrestricted internet access, including through satellite-based services such as Starlink.
Silence in the face of such brutality is complicity. The world must hear the voice of the Iranian people and act now.
