The World Liberty Congress is gravely alarmed by credible source that the life of our member, Tundu Lissu, is in danger while in detention in Tanzania.
Tundu Lissu has been deprived of his liberty for more than 470 days. His detention is the latest chapter in years of persecution, including surviving an assassination attempt, repeated arbitrary arrests, and politically motivated prosecution for his unwavering commitment to democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. Any harm to him while in state custody would be the direct responsibility of the Tanzanian authorities.
We call on the Government of Tanzania to immediately and unconditionally release Tundu Lissu.
We also urge the international community, democratic governments, and human rights organizations to act with urgency, demand his release, and closely monitor his situation.
The World Liberty Congress stands in full solidarity with Tundu Lissu, and all Tanzanians fighting peacefully for freedom and democracy.
Free Tundu Lissu. His life must be protected.
